Layering Live Instruments

As great as modern synthesizers are, often times they can leave our songs sounding a bit dull and lifeless. A great way to overcome this is to layer real (sampled) instruments in with our synths.

You should approach this the same way that you would approach layering synths: make sure that their envelopes (ADSR) are similar, and that their timbres are complimentary. For example, try layering a string instrument with your lead supersaw, or try layering a brass instrument against a saw bass. Experiment with layering real instruments against different types of synth sounds.

The goal is to combine the power of electronic synths with the dynamics and warmth of real instruments, while altogether maintaining one cohesive sound.
